Computational methods and transport phenomena: two examples at two different scales.

Abstract:

In this brief talk transport phenomena in semiconductor devices and in molecular systems will be illustrated.  
In the first case the nanoscale dimension of the devices requires the use of classical and quantum mechanics so to obtain a coupled set of equations to be solved numerically. The methods applied for the resolution of these equations will be exposed and commented.
In the second  part of the talk the theoretical model for the realization of nano pumps for the transport of molecular hydrogen will be exposed. The foundation idea of the project is the use of  transversal phonons in a system of graphene sheets so to create dynamical cavities containing the molecules to be transported. Also in this case the numerical methods used for the analysis will be shown and commented.
