Abstract

The problem of designing intelligent robotic applications is often defined as the problem of building an intelligent connection of the perception to action. This talk will provide an overview of this problem in the context of a robot interacting with a human by focusing on how obtaining meaningful information from the human observation and, consequently, how to adapt and model the robot behavior accordingly. This analysis will be conducted by considering different levels of interaction starting from the physical level toward more cognitive and social aspect of the interaction. The talk will present examples from current research projects in the area of socially assistive robotics.

Bio

Silvia Rossi received the M.Sc. degree in Physics from the University of Naples Federico II (Italy), and the Ph.D. degree in Information and Communication Technologies from the University of Trento (Italy). She has been an Assistant Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies, University of Naples Federico II, since 2009, where she is currently the Co-Chief Manager of the PRISCA (Intelligent Robotics and Advanced Cognitive System Projects) Laboratory. Her research interests include Multi-agent Systems, Human-Robot Interaction, Socially Assistive Robotics, and Recommender Systems. She is Associate Editor for Pattern Recognition Letters, IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (RA-L) and for Intelligent Service Robotics. She is the general chair of RO-MAN 2020, and is in the program/organization committee of several international conferences on human-robot interaction, artificial intelligence, and multi-agent systems.
